I sat through jury duty all day and got dismissed at the last minute by the defense attorney. 3 words sent me packing - more on that below. But first, context: For as long as I can remember, my dad has been a police officer. He parked his squad car in front of our house, he gave all my friends speeding tickets, and he retired after 35 years of honorable service. So, on my jury questionnaire this morning, they asked my thoughts about law enforcement. I wrote three words. "I love cops." And it was apparent that many on the potential juror panel didn't share my positive sentiment. No problem. It's how I feel. Here's the lesson: Not everyone will agree with everything you say. You can't make everyone happy. You are not pizza. But it's better to take a stand in your marketing for what you believe in. For example: I'm very pro: freedom, automation, efficiency, consistency, and community. I'm very anti: hustle, social media, content treadmills, complexity, and big teams. When you take a stand, some will draw closer to you. Some will push you away. That's the point. Have an opinion. Take a stand. Let the chips fall where they may. Just don't be boring. You got this, ~ Cody P.S. Now that I know my schedule this week, I'm thinking of hosting a get-together this Friday morning about the Laidback Business Blueprint. We'll map out your own lean, profitable laidback business plan before the summer starts. Just gimme some time to put the reg page together, and I'll send it to you tomorrow. |
