You ever watch curling?

It’s that Winter Olympic sport where someone slides a rock down the ice while their teammates frantically sweep in front of it.

I grew up in Texas, so at first, I didn’t get it.

But then I learned that sweeping actually matters.

It reduces friction, controls the speed, and helps guide the rock toward the target.

Without it?

The rock slows down too soon or veers off course.

A good welcome series does the same thing.

When someone joins your email list, they have momentum.

They’re curious.

Interested.

Paying attention.

But if you don’t guide them (if you don’t “brush the ice” for them) they lose steam.

They forget why they joined.

And worst of all?

They never become a customer.
