Ever heard of "habit stacking?" It's when you do something you want to do while doing something you need to do. For me? I watch movies while I'm on the elliptical machine. Took me four sessions to finish Inception last week. Then, I was almost done with The Last Samurai when tragedy struck. On Saturday, I climbed onto the machine and pulled up the streaming app on my phone. When I went to the "Continue Watching" row, I saw a padlock and a price tag on top of the movie. It was free in February. Now I had to pay. Frustrating, right? Starting something, getting invested, and then hitting an unexpected interruption. That happens all the time in email marketing. Someone subscribes, excited to hear from you. But then… silence. Or randomness. Or worse, a sales pitch before they know you. Just like with my movie, they lose interest and disappear.
