Two monumental shifts happened at the end of 2022: ChatGPT went mainstream (Nov), and I was let go from my marketing job (Dec). As I rebuilt my business in 2023, I was a slow adopter of AI tools. They weren't "intelligent," they were "pattern recognizers." Like a chatty Google search. Plus, I was already good at copywriting and marketing, so I didn't see much use for it. This all changed in January of last year. I was in Toronto for a VIP Day with my mentor, Stu McLaren (the membership guy). He was breathlessly explaining how he was using CustomGPTs in his business and with his mastermind members. (BTW: A CustomGPT is kinda like a standalone program you can have perform a specific task). He spun his laptop around and showed me a use case for his content creation strategy. He had given it a specific set of instructions, and it followed them every time. My brain shifted. I got it. I was using AI like a Chatty Google, and he was using it like an employee. A month later, I made my first CustomGPT as a companion for my flagship course. I "trained" it on all my course transcripts, so that any student could chat with it and get help as they went through my course. I've made dozens of CustomGPTs since then (for content, ads, workshops, outlines, sales pages... anything). If I had created the framework, I could turn it into a CustomGPT. And another seismic shift occurred recently with ChatGPT's main competitor: Claude. If you use Claude like a Chatty Google... it functions pretty much the same as ChatGPT. But using it as a chatbot is level one. It's kindergarten. Claude has a bunch of other tools lying in wait. Some are waaaay too complex (I watched a training yesterday that looked more like a sci-fi hacker film). Irrelevant to most of us "normie" business owners. But the one I'm currently geeking out about is "Skills." I taught a workshop to my coaching members last month on how I was using Skills in my business... and they loved it. And it's kinda hard to type it all out for you here, so I'm thinking of hosting a workshop in April on how to use Claude Skills in your business. I'll show you my setup and how it's saving me hours of time each week, which helps me ship more useful stuff to my clients while working less. It's the same shift that I experienced with Stu last year: seeing AI tools as employees that I can train on my systems and expertise. ...like a super attentive executive assistant that never forgets how to do something. I'm still nailing down the workshop date, but you'll be the first to hear when it's ready. Talk soon, ~ Cody |
