Deep Dive: I'm Streaking.DRINKING POND WATERMy wife is a luxury event planner. From 2016-2020 she ran events for a guy named Nic. They were high-end events in the swankiest hotels. I'm talking white glove service, concierge, black car from the airport...nice. Part of the experience was the gift box neatly placed at a 90-degree angle for each attendee. These weren't your cheap, flimsy shoeboxes, nosiree. They were thick, black, velvety boxes with a magnetic closure. Inside:
Ok, it wasn't pond water. It was a drink I'd only heard of on Tim Ferriss' podcasts: Athletic Greens. (Now it's called AG1). Nic knew the owner of the company, and we always had more than we needed for guests... So I tried some and I liked it, but it was really expensive: about $80/mo for 30 servings Fast forward to 2018, and I met the owner of AG1 at an entrepreneur event. He convinced me the supplement was worth the investment, gave me a few more samples, and I signed up. And now, 7 years later, every morning had started with a scoop of AG1. I haven't missed a day. It's my longest-running daily streak. APPLE WATCH SLAVEDo you have an Apple Watch? Do you try to "close your rings" every day? I did. For years. Until last summer, when I was in Fiji for a business event. I closed my rings while I was there, but I missed a day on the way back. I left on Thursday and arrived home on a Saturday. I time-travelled through Friday while in the air. I was powerless. The Apple Watch streak was broken (and honestly, I like the freedom b/c I'm in the best shape of my life now, and I don't worry about closing my rings anymore). THE EMAIL DAREDuring my wife's event management with Nic, I joined his marketing membership. There, I met a guy named Kennedy who had an email marketing membership. This was during my "buy everything and join everything" era, so naturally, I signed up. At the time, I emailed my list sporadically with mixed results. In the membership, they "dared" us to send a daily email. I'm always down for a challenge, so I signed on. It was simple: every day, send an email and post your subject line in a shared spreadsheet. 11 of us signed on. A few never got started. A few dropped after a few days. I was the only one who mailed every day that month (October 2021). "Cool....so that's when you started sending a daily email right? RIGHT?" No. November and December were back to normal. I mustered my courage in January 2022 and haven't looked back. Yes, I've sent a daily email for 1,282 days in a row. And I don't plan on stopping. OTHER ODD DAILY STREAKS
THE POWER OF A DAILY HABITThere's just something about going daily. Every day, I don't have to ask myself, "Is today the day that I have to send an email?" If it's a day ending in "Y", then that's what I do. A daily Telegram at 7:00 am to my business mentorship membership. Athletic Greens (AG1) after my workout at 8:30 am. A daily email in the afternoon to my whole list. A daily post in Email School at 10 pm. Every day... ...unless I'm flying while crossing the International Date Line.
