I try to avoid coaching tropes as much as possible. You know the ones: "You can't pour from an empty cup..." "Your mess is your message..." "Old keys won't unlock new doors..." Eye roll... My least favorite, though, has to be "It's a numbers game." This is a popular consolation when a marketing campaign flops. It's actually not a numbers game. I'll prove it. 2 years + 4 months ago, I lost my job right before Christmas. I was devastated. After the fog cleared, I told my wife, Christy (who is also a world-class event planner), to book me a hotel. I was going to host an event. "What will you teach?" She asked. Fair question. "I don't know yet! Book me a hotel (please!)" A few months later, I had 12 brave people in a boutique hotel in Colorado Springs learning my list-building and launching methods. Now... Did I think I needed more people than 12? Sure. But what happened next is the stuff of legend. As the event wound down, I introduced an $8,500 coaching offer to my 12 attendees. When we collected the sign-up sheets at the end, I counted them over and over again. 1...2...3...4...5...6...7......8........9!! 9 people accepted the offer. 75% of the attendees. I was blown away. That's when I realized it's not about "having big numbers"... It's about "having the right people." This week, I was chatting with a client who shared that she made over six figures last year. Her email list size? 390 people. Objectively, a small list. But her list is jammed full of the right people. Big difference. So if you think you need a big list to have a great business... You don't. You just need the right people. You got this, ~ Cody P.S. Next week I'm hosting a free event to help you build your list with the right people. We start Monday. |
