I was ambushed. My son, Ben (15), got out of track practice at 4:45 yesterday afternoon. My car was parked in the street, and as I was walking from my front door to the car... A stranger jumped out of nowhere. He was an older gentleman in a full suit...but wearing a baseball cap. Odd combo. I physically recoiled and continued to my car. He closed in. We made eye contact. I was clearly in a rush. "CAN I GIVE YOU MY CARD???" he exclaimed. "Uhhh.....for what?" I replied nervously. He got closer and smiled. "Investing!!!" "Uh..... no thanks. I'm headed to pick up my kid." He didn't take the hint. "DO YOU INVEST IN THE MARKET?" "Hey man, I'm late. Not interested. Good luck." I got in the car and sped off. In my rearview mirror, I saw him walk up to my neighbor's house and ring the bell, continuing his quest. As I drove away, I was filled with gratitude that I didn't have to pound the pavement to get customers. Cool if you're 15 and trying to get some snow shoveling jobs. Not cool if you're an adult trying to make ends meet (no judgment... it's just hard) That's what I love about running an online business. I don't have to wear a suit and wander through cul-de-sacs with a stack of business cards trying to find clients. I don't have to wear smart, comfortable shoes and wear out the leather trying to start conversations. My ads bring in new leads. My emails stay in touch. My monthly campaigns create clients. I can be productive in a tank top. I can do solid work in my socks. And I still have time to pick up Ben from school. Super grateful for the model I've created. And if you'd like a little more freedom before the summer, I'm working on something new. Details next week. You got this, ~ Cody |
