"I'll drop you off here and meet you at the lighthouse. Don't worry, it's closer than it looks."

I squinted at the tiny lighthouse in the distance while I bobbed in the water.

This was a few years ago on a snorkeling trip with my wife in the Caribbean.

The boat dropped the two of us off near a reef in the ocean.

Our instructions: snorkel towards the lighthouse where the boat would pick us up.

So, we obediently stuck our heads underwater and paddled in that direction.

I remember the radiant colors of the reef and the wide variety of fish that joined us.

It was peaceful.

And, every minute or so, my wife and I would pop our heads up and make sure we were on track.

We'd reorient ourselves back towards the lighthouse, then plop our heads back underwater.

Snorkel. Paddle. Pop up. Tweak. Repeat.

This ^^ is how I run my coaching group.

We meet quarterly to plan the next 90-day chunk of work to be done.

We break the 90 days into two 6-week sprints.

Then we get to work.

When the project is done, we pop back up, make sure we're on track, and get back to work.

It's a nice rhythm between plotting and plodding.

Plan where you're headed.

Do the work.

Rest.

Repeat.

Running a successful business isn't running a marathon at sprint speed.

It's getting the vision, then doing the work.

Rest and repeat.

Over and over again.

Next thing you know, you're at the lighthouse at the end...

And enjoying the journey in the meantime.

You got this,

~ Cody

P.S. If you'd benefit from doing this kind of work together, reply with 'LIGHTHOUSE' in the subject lines. I have an idea for how we can make sure you stay on track. Talk soon.
