Old Town Scottsdale is kind of a lie. It’s beautiful, sure. Palm trees, art galleries, rooftop bars... everything sun-kissed and curated. But it’s not really Arizona. I’m just here for two days - I flew in from Colorado Springs to host a mastermind for my coaching group. And this place? It’s like the Beverly Hills version of the desert. Ten minutes outside Old Town, and it’s a different story. Strip malls, cracked pavement, chain link fences, and normal cars parked in front of normal houses. More real. More human. And honestly... more interesting. It reminds me of how I used to show up in my business. I had a stack of pocket squares and tailored jackets in my closet. I wanted to look (and sound) like I had everything figured out. Victories? Share them. Failures? Hide them. Statistics? Cherry-pick them. I thought if I looked the part, I’d be taken seriously. But that version of me? Inauthentic, scared, and not helpful. When I finally relaxed into who I actually am (flannel, jeans, no filter, laidback language) everything changed. I connected more deeply with my mission and my audience. And my business grew, quietly and steadily, without me pretending to be someone I’m not. It’s easy to fall in love with the airbrushed version of things. But the raw, dusty, honest stuff? That’s what actually moves people. Be yourself. Everyone else it taken. You got this, ~ Cody |
