I went to an event in the Summer of 2018 that completely changed my life. But I didn't know it at the time. I'd started my online business a year earlier and was still sniffing around for the model I actually wanted to build. Well, this event was about memberships and was hosted by a quirky Canadian guy named Stu McLaren. What he shared made so much sense that I went all in on the membership model and joined a coaching program (which later morphed into a Mastermind). 8 years later? I'm still in it. I've learned a lot from Stu about memberships and recurring revenue. And in 2022, that advice turned out to be especially important. In May '22, I shut down my online business to take my "dream job" with one of my favorite clients. 6 months later, the dream turned into a nightmare, and I was abruptly fired right before Christmas. Time to start over. A few months later, I launched a small mentoring membership called The Laidback Lounge. I had just 21 people in that founding class, but it's steadily grown to 67 people. A year later, I launched another one called Email School, which has hundreds of members. Today, those memberships are a huge part of my online business and generate recurring revenue every month.
