My first attempt at entrepreneurship stumbled out of the gates.

Here's the story.

For years, I worked for a guy who built his business via networking at corporate events.

We'd travel to conferences together.

I sat in the back of the ballroom with my laptop and implemented what the speakers taught.

He hung out in the hallway, networking.

He was so good at it.

So, when I ventured out on my own, I tried to build my business the only way I knew how:

Networking at conferences.

Small problem: I'm extremely introverted.

I tried to fake it till I made it.

I went to conference after conference, hoping to make connections and get clients.

But every time I flew home, I had zero business cards and zero connections.

I realized I was trying to build his business his way. Not mine.

Eventually, I wised up and built a business around my strengths.

Instead of relying on my (terrible) networking skills, I built an email list.

Instead of going to events...I hosted my own events.

Instead of creating offers that relied on in-person fulfillment...I started memberships and cohorts.

Not saying you have to grow your business like mine.

I'm saying you have to BYOB.

Build your own business.

Play to your strengths.

Instead of trudging uphill...

Walk downhill.

It's much easier.

You got this,

~ Cody
