A few years ago, I lost my job right before Christmas. I didn't mean to. But I did. I mourned the loss of the paychecks for a few weeks, and by January, I decided to get back on the saddle and ride again. The first move I made was to put a family vacation on the calendar in May, right after the boys got out of school. I booked a few nights at Universal Studios Orlando through Costco Travel. Luckily, I just needed $200 to secure the trip. The rest was due in May. Plenty of time to get my business up and running. It was wobbly at first. January and February were a struggle, but we made it work. By March, I hit my stride and had my first $30K month. A few months later, we strolled Diagon Alley, drank ButterBeer, and got our hair blown back on the Velocicoaster. It was great. A lot of business owners put the fun stuff last. We get so busy running the business that we forget to plan for the freedom that got us started in the first place. Not me. The fun goes in first. Then, I arrange the business priorities around the fun stuff. At my age (mid-40s), with a wife of 23 years, three kids (19, 17, and 14), I'm in the "memory-making" phase of my life. I don't want to wake up one day with an empty nest and empty photo books to thumb through. I want to continue to fill our calendars with memories made and stories told. That's why, at tomorrow's Revenue Roadmap Workshop, we're going to put the fun into the calendar first. Then, we'll put the promotions around it to make sure we have enough time, money, and freedom to go around. If you still need a ticket, you can get one here: https://codyburch.samcart.com/products/rr2026 And if the times don't work, you can get a recording of the session to watch before January. Talk soon, ~ Cody "But First... Fun" Burch |
