Deep Dive: Mastermind MeaningMY BUSINESS BREAKTHROUGHS HAVE ALL BEEN AT MASTERMINDSI'm in Lisbon for a 2-day mastermind with Stu McLaren. I've been in Stu's world since 2018 and have no intention of ever leaving. Why? Masterminds changed my life. Quick backstory: In 2022, I landed and lost my dream job in a 6 month span. I had to start over. But I had no vision for what was ahead and no rudder to get me there. Enter the Mastermind. As soon as I left the fog of getting fired, I contacted the "Customer Concierge" in Stu's world. Even though I'd been in the Mastermind for a few years, I was a big ol' wallflower. Never went to the calls. Didn't come to the events. So, I sheepishly explained to a lovely woman named Shawna, "Uhh... I just got fired, and I don't know what to do." She calmly directed me to the next group call with Stu. "There's calls around here?" I asked. "Yep! You should come to one!" So, I did. GETTING DIRECTIONStu is most known for helping people create memberships (like this). But, when I told him my situation, he said, "Go high ticket to feed your family." I was crushed by losing the job, but I trudged onward. I sold VIP Days for $1,500. Then $2,000. $3,000. It worked. I made ~ $12K in month 1. $11K in month 2. ~$30K in month 3. I paid my bills, found my footing, and started plotting my next move. All thanks to the clarity and direction from that Mastermind. SWEATY SECONDSThen, I heard that an owner of an email membership I was in was coming to Orlando (from the UK) in June. It'd be hot, but I was in. I flew to Orlando for a 1-day Mastermind. Remember, ~ 6 months ago, I had lost my job... OK, so I'm in Orlando, and my hot seat time comes up. I shared what was going on and what I was thinking about. "I'm good at marketing. I'm good at funnels. I'm really good at emails. I'm doing these VIP Days but looking for something more leveraged." The room stayed silent. Someone noted I had been traveling a lot. Santorini in April. Orlando in May. Mexico with my wife. Someone piped up. "Uh... didn't you just get fired, but now you're traveling to all these cool places?" "Yeah," I said, scratching my head. "I just, I don't know... I keep it pretty laidback." EVERYONE LEAPT OUT OF THEIR CHAIRS AND SAID IN UNISON, "THAT'S IT!" I was shocked. "What do you mean?" I asked. The leader took the floor. "Look, everyone is burnt out in their online business. If you can help them structure it in a way that's more laid back... it's a winner. That's your thing. That's your angle." I was hesitant, but as they say, you can't read the label from inside the bottle. So, I flew home to Colorado and started planning for "The Laidback Accelerator," where I'd help folks implement a leveraged way to market, sell, and deliver their stuff. And it worked. 100 people bought the pre-launch content. 30 signed up for the $1K beta program. 22 enrolled in the back-end membership. I stopped doing VIP Days. Thank you, Masterminds. SO, WHAT IS A MASTERMIND?A mastermind is a group of like-minded folks working to help each other in their businesses. I'm in 2 (they're kinda coaching/mastermind hybrids), and I host my own. It's great. You surround yourself with a diverse group of people kinda like you... Some are ahead by a few steps, some are behind a few steps... And you get (and give) help. You put your heads together. It's a master mind. Get it? HOW MINE WORKSMine is appropriately called "The Laidback Coaching Program." There are 24 folks in there. It's almost 1 year old. I met with one member today in Lisbon (she's from Geneva). The rest of us are getting together for a quarterly intensive next week in AZ. Mine includes:
And it's kinda like snorkeling. You know when you go snorkeling, you put your head underwater, look at the fishies and pop your head up every now and then? That's what we do. We plan out quarterly. We break the quarters into 2 6-week sprints. We get to work, and pop up every 6 weeks to plan our next moves. Would you like to join us?
