I don't remember when I first heard of Pat. But I remember the first time I saw him like it was yesterday. He was speaking at an event my wife was running back in 2016. He's one of the originals in the online marketing game, and he gave a great keynote. Funny, smart, and exceptionally kind. "Pat," of course, is "Pat Flynn" of the wildly successful online company "Smart Passive Income." Huge blog. Huge podcast. Huge presence online. And after 18 years of running the company, he announced 2 days ago that he was selling it to another great online entrepreneur, Liz Wilcox. It sent ripples through my corner of the internet. You can read his whole post here, titled appropriately, "The Most Important Announcement I Have Ever Written." During Covid, Pat started a new YouTube channel with his kids about Pokemon. ...and it took off. He's now one of the top content creators about Pokémon. In his blog, he told a story of how he was hosting a Pokémon event with 10,000 fans, and a teammate was concerned: She could tell I was tired and distracted, and I definitely was.

It was like I was straddling two different ladders, trying to climb both at the same time. The Pokémon YouTube channel that I started with my kids in 2020 has become a new calling for me, however Smart Passive Income, which I started in 2008, is my baby.

And for the last 2 or 3 years, I’ve felt the push and pull mentally between the two. My time and my actions have been divided, and maybe you’ve even felt that on your end.
(It's a great post, and you should read it.) As I read through his reasoning, it deeply resonated with me. Why? Well, you may not know this, but for the last few years I was trying to climb multiple ladders as well. 2 years ago, I started a coaching program called The Laidback Coaching Program. About 40 people went through that container, and it was easily the highest-revenue-generating piece of my business. I closed it last month. I also ran a cohort-turned-membership called The Laidback Lounge. 3x a year, I sold a $997 cohort on the front end (8 weeks), and then people joined an alumni membership ($89/mo). I closed that this month. 3 different offers that generated > 6-figures per year each... gone. Maybe you're scratching your head asking, "bro, do you hate money? whatiswrongwithyou?" I can't run 5 businesses. One is hard enough. So here's what I'm focusing on next. Implementation. You have enough information. AI will give you all the info you need. I'm not selling information anymore. I'm selling implementation. My workshops will be more hands-on. You'll leave with a completed project, not a to-do list. Email School is hosting implementation sessions, too. Starting next week. And my newest implementation super-offer: I'll build your entire workshop machine for you. Last thing: If you feel like you're carrying too much, you can put some stuff down. People will be disappointed. You can't please everyone. You're not pizza. Which reminds me, it's pizza night here, and I need to go. Thanks for reading. Thanks for being here. Talk tomorrow, ~ Cody "Former Ladder Straddler" Burch |
