You could cut the awkwardness with a knife...

Today, we had a guy come by to give us a quote on some home repairs - windows and siding.

In fact, he's still here (sitting a few feet in front of me at our dining room table), about to drop the quote on us.

He got here 2.5 hours ago.

Started with some awkward small talk:

  • "How long have you lived here?"
  • "Where'd you guys meet?"
  • "How much did your dog cost?"

And, my favorite, "So, what do you do for a living?"

This is like the line from the movie Office Space, "What would you say you do here?"

If I were at a business mastermind, I'd say, "I'm most known for helping online entrepreneurs build a laidback online business powered by their stories."

But, for Mr. Window Guy?

"Uh...I'm a marketing consultant."

Vague. Disinterested. He moved on.

Here's the thing: getting known for something makes all the difference.

A marketing consultant sounds like a commodity because it is.

But...

My "most known for..." statement makes me unique.

I'm the only one who delivers that outcome, that way, to that audience.

No competition.

That's why, whenever someone joins my coaching program, we start with crafting their "most known for" statement.

It's a simple combo of:

  • The outcome you create
  • The people you help
  • The method you use

Simple.

And, instead of disinterest, they lean in.

Give it a try this week and let me know how it goes for you.

Alright, I gotta get back to my home quote (he just turned the iPad around).

Wish me luck - ha
