19 years ago today, I went from a "normal man" to a "Dad."

My oldest son, Jacob, was born sometime in the afternoon (I'm sure my wife knows the exact time).

And today, he called off work and we took him to lunch at his favorite sushi spot.

I'm no fan of sushi, but I would eat a bowl of broken glass if it meant I got to spend time with him.

After he slurped the last of his miso soup, I asked him a question I'd been thinking about all morning:

"Imagine it's 6 years from now.

You're 25.

What does life look like for you?

How do you spend your time?

Who are you with?

What do you look like?

Where do you live?"

Big questions, I know.

We spent all of lunch chatting about all the branching answers to that huge question, but here's the gist:

"Dad, I want to make enough money to fund my lifestyle."

Cool. Same. Me too.

Now, as his Dad, I hope he finds meaningful ways to spend his time with friends, in relationships, and through his job.

I want him to flourish in every way.

He's watching us, too. My wife and I both run our own things.

Neither one of us had to ask off work for an unhurried lunch with our son.

We didn't wince when he ordered the fifth sushi roll or asked for iced coffee for dessert.

We have the time and money freedom to make it happen with zero hesitation.

And, I'm not your dad, but that's what I want for you, too.

I want you to create meaningful offers that fuel your lifestyle, so you can do more of what lights you up.

I want you to take your calling and help people who are struggling.

I want you to flourish.

So, Happy Birthday to Jacob (who now goes by Jake).

And here's an iced coffee toast to your success, too.
