We had a reservation at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Lisbon. Which sounds fancy (and it was), but what you need to know is: My credit card was on file in case we missed our reservation. I booked the place. I called the Uber. I told the driver where to go. So when he dropped us off at the wrong location, two blocks downhill from where we actually needed to be, I felt mildly responsible. And by “mildly,” I mean I watched one of the women in our group try to navigate Lisbon cobblestone in heels (uphill)... I mentally prepared myself to cover everyone’s tasting menu as punishment. We hustled uphill as fast as she could manage, hoping we wouldn’t be late. We weren’t. We made it. And it was magical. 17 courses. 4.5 hours. Zero regrets. A little chaos. But that doesn’t mean the experience won’t be worth it. Make the most of it. Have fun. Keep going. Even if your reputation’s on the line. (Or at least your Amex.)
