Most nights, dinner at our house is fast.

My wife cooks something quick while the boys get ready for whatever sport or activity is on deck.

It's quick and chaotic.

But it's a good life.

A normal life.

And then tonight...

I sat in Lisbon, in a candlelit restaurant with friends...

...eating food I can't pronounce while the waiter explained the philosophy behind the sauce.

This trip has been full of those moments.

It's a far cry from those weeknight speed-suppers in Colorado...

But somehow? It's still me.

I used to think you had to choose.

That you were either the "fancy dinner in Portugal" kind of person

or

The "Costco haul in my pickup truck" kind of person.

That you were either laidback or profitable.

Turns out you don't have to pick.

You can be both.

You can love a quiet night at home

and

Get lost in a 17-course tasting menu.

You can be the dad who chauffeurs Ben to wrestling practice

and

Fly across the world for a mastermind.

You can be laidback and lean and profitable and make an impact.

You're allowed to surprise yourself.

You're allowed to grow into things.

You're allowed to be both.
